The need to foster resilience in children is one that should be promoted in parental education and adopted by schools to help children develop the skills needed to face life’s many adversities. If a child is give the skillset to encourage resilience, there is an increased probability that they can lead socially competent lives regardless of social constraints they are faced with e.g. extreme poverty or violence. By fostering resilience we can help to alleviate severe social problems such as abuse and violence.
When autonomy, empathy, problem solving, and effective communication is encouraged in children, their future adult selves are a great contribution to society as well as themselves. Through the promotion of resilience children gain life improving abilities and behaviors such as the ability to face crisis or tragic life difficulties. By focusing on nurturing resilient children we encourage more emotionally sound individuals. When a child becomes resilient the likelihood that they will persevere through adversity increases in comparison to on who is not resilient.
